Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park


Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the South Western of Uganda.. This very ancient Rainforest, which survived the last ice age with over 300 tree species, vines and ferns is inhabitedby a wide range of animal species including 90 mammals (11 primates), over 300 species of birds and 200 species of butterflies. Almost half of the worlds population of Mountain Gorillas lives here
The park lies at an altitude range of 1160 metres to 2610 metres above sea leve.
There are 4 groups accustomed to human presence. The group of which pictures are shown here is the “Habinyanja” group, consisting of 18 gorillas and 1 silverback. The other groups are Nkuringo group consisting of 19 gorillas and 2 silver backs, Rushegura group consisting of 10 gorillas and 1 silverback and Mubare group, consisting of 10 gorillas and 1 silverback. Only eight 8 persons are permitted per group for a maximum of one hour. Gorilla tracking starts at 8:30 am and can last the whole day. You need to be in a good health (no contagious disease) and you must have a good physical fitness because gorilla tracking can be quite challenging due to high altitude. For Gorilla Tracking you need a Permit which must be booked at least 3 months in advance. Uganda Wildlife Authority
